Let’s face it; this ash cloud has played havoc with our holiday planning. You are very likely to have been, or know somebody who has been, touched by the effects. With flights being cancelled left right and centre, holidays have been thrown up in the air with thousands of people being left stranded abroad with very little money, and people find that they are unable to fly out on their holiday because their flights have been cancelled too! The airline companies have been tirelessly trying to organise alternatives but the scare stories were always bound to leak out; and with so much access to media it happened very quickly. People now have a lack of faith in holidaying abroad which has resulted in a drop in bookings to all sorts of destinations.
In the summer, this trouble should all have ended. The ash cloud should no longer hang above our heads and we should be more confident in flying out from Birmingham airport. Perhaps people will decide to fly to Alicante or Faro; both Spain and Portugal offering the opportunity to soak up the sun and get away from the stresses of everyday life. Or perhaps a more unorthodox holiday is required; with flights out to Prague and Cairo on offer should you so desire. These are growing in popularity and are becoming some of the most desirable destinations from Birmingham airport. One thing, however, is for sure; if you don’t let the ash cloud put you off then the world is your oyster!

If you were to conduct a survey, you would be very likely to discover that the vast majority of the British population own or have access to a vehicle that they can drive. They are able to drive it competently on the roads and in this modern society, a large number of trips that are made are done with the use of a car. Except, perhaps, trips to the airport. For some reason, British people seem to have a fear of using the car parks at airports due to some misguided perception that they are incredibly expensive. Whilst they are more than happy to shell out £200 on train tickets to and from the airport, they are reluctant to pay a fraction of this cost to park in the long stay car park at the airport for the duration of their trip. Many airports have invested heavily in their car parking system to ensure that they are able to cope with large numbers of users.
Birmingham airport is no different. The long stay car park is able to hold upwards of 600 people meaning that it is very unlikely that you will find yourself without a space. It is a short walk from the airport terminals (contrasted with the railway station where you have to get a bus or a taxi to save yourself a long walk) which means that even in a rush you will arrive on time. The cost works out at just under £1 per hour for extended stays; compared with the train which can work out as £20 per hour!
